The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing the operations and fiscal health of the respective project. This role is also responsible for overseeing and leading the output of the project team under them and the management and delivery of projects in a process plant design and construction environment.

Purpose of the role:

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Engineering
- To ensure that the technical integrity and scope definition is maintained throughout the design, procurement, and construction activities, by maintaining close co-operation with those functions and advising the Project Manager if corrective action is needed during the lifecycle of a project.
- To ensure the technical quality is in accordance with contract requirements and approved project design criteria.
- To build and maintain long-term relationships with service providers to ensure improved quality of service to meet company objectives on an ongoing basis.
- To ensure supplier and contractor interfaces are well understood and integrated into the design and delivery of the project through frequent and regular review during project lifecycle.
- To control the flow of technical information from/to the client, suppliers, design office and the lead discipline engineers, ensuring quick and effective communication and record keeping on an ongoing basis.
- To drive the filing and transmitting of project engineering documentation in accordance with project and company procedures to align different disciplines on an ongoing basis.
- To ensure that the project scope and quality requirements are clearly defined and agreed, and that change control procedures are adhered to during the lifecycle of a project.
- Comply with all company and project cost control guidelines and procedures set out in training, all company policies, emailed instructions, and manager instructions. (This includes purchasing, expense claims etc.)
- To maintain direct costs within budget through appropriate technical input and advice to the Project Manager on an ongoing basis.
- To ensure all project deliverables are completed and documentation finalized for project close out and client handover.
- Review vendor documentation in the form of schedules, datasheets, calculations, drawings, and fabrication procedures to ensure equipment or services conforms to project/client requirements and to local/international standards.
- Conduct technical adjudications on mechanical equipment to ensure it is designed according to project/client requirements and local/international standards.
- Conduct engineering material investigations and trade-off to ensure cost effective solutions to the client and the project.
- Review internally generated engineering drawings to ensure they conform to project/client requirements and to local/international standards.
- Participate in model and HAZOP reviews, lead RAMBO reviews when required to ensure the project is designed according to project/client requirements and local/international standards.
- Identify areas of innovation that may lead to increased productivity, automation, reduced costs, time and material wastages and increased profitability.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience
- National Diploma in a relevant Engineering discipline (essential)
- Bachelor of Engineering or Engineering Technology (desirable)
- ECSA registered - Candidate registration or PrEng (desirable)
- SAIMechE desirable
- 3 years Project engineering work related work relating to process plants, including studies, basic engineering and detailed engineering.
- 3 years Engineering design experience on projects pertaining to process plant design and construction.
- 2+ years staff supervisory/management experience.
- 2+ years project management experience.
- Good business acumen (i.e., numeracy skills, understanding and generation of budgets reports).
- Good knowledge of market related suppliers.
