Sales Engineer (Electrical)

Purpose of the role:

The Sales Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing profitable electrical engineering and automation business opportunities. 

The role combines technical expertise with business development to build strong client relationships, understand customer challenges and develop fit-for-purpose solutions. The Sales Engineer serves as the primary technical and commercial interface with clients throughout the sales cycle, ensuring that opportunities align with the company's strategic objectives, engineering capabilities, commercial requirements, and quality standards. 

The position contributes to sustainable revenue growth, increased market presence, and long-term client partnerships while ensuring all proposals are technically compliant, commercially viable, and aligned with company governance and risk management processes. 


Key Responsibilities:

Account Ownership & Relationship Management 

  • Own and manage all mid-tier relationships within key operator accounts. 

  • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and support repeat project engagement. 

  • Maintain consistent communication and presence throughout operator decision-making cycles 

Client Relationship Management 

  • Maintain regular client contact 

  • Conduct client visits and presentations 

  • Respond promptly to client enquiries 

  • Manage customer expectations 

  • Resolve technical and commercial issues during the sales process. 

Sales Forecasting & Reporting 

  • Maintain CRM accuracy, ensuring visibility into opportunities, plant performance, and engagement history. 

  • Update opportunity pipeline. 

  • Prepare monthly forecasts. 

  • Report sales activities.  

  • Monitor sales performance against targets 

  • Share market and operator insights with Business Development, Engineering, and Product teams to support strategic planning and product evolution. 


Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications
  • Relevant Diploma or Degree (preferred) in Electrical Engineering
Experience
  • 5+ years in account management, business development, or external technical sales within engineering sectors 
  • 2+ years' experience working directly with operators, asset owners, or large industrial clients
  • Prior experience in solution developing relating to electrical and automation equipment and projects 
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and shape opportunities
  • Strong understanding of the following:  

    • LV and MV electrical systems.  
    • Motor control centers (MCCs).  
    • Power distribution.  
    • Instrumentation.  
    • Industrial automation and control systems.  
    • PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems.  
    • Electrical standards and codes.
